Building Accessible Travel with Pride and Joy

Lakshmee Lachhman Persad • April 24, 2026

This video reflects seven years of our work building accessible travel beyond compliance—grounded in Disability Pride, Disability Joy, and the lived experience that shapes Accessible Travel NYC’s strategy, partnerships, and impact.

This video looks back at the seven-year journey behind Accessible Travel NYC—how the work started, how it evolved, and what it has grown into today. It traces the path from early experiences navigating New York City with my family to building a disability-led approach to accessible travel rooted in lived experience, strategy, and partnerships.

The video reflects how Disability Pride and Disability Joy became central to the work—not as concepts, but as guiding values that shape how accessibility is approached, communicated, and implemented across tourism, arts and culture, and government. It’s meant to offer context for the work I do now and the foundation that continues to guide Accessible Travel NYC.
