Georgia O'Keeffe Exhibit and Halloween

Accessible Travel NYC NYBG Fall

During our fall visit, which believe it or not, it was also the last day of their Hawai’i installation by Georgia O’Keeffe, however this time it was not as busy. Perhaps because it was cooler and on a Sunday. It was a sunny, crisp fall day and we were greeted by colorful fall foliage and cheerful children dressed in their Halloween costumes. Yes, Diya was a bit disappointed she wasn’t decked out in her Unicorn onsie but we had no idea the Gardens had their annual Children’s Halloween Adventure weekends. We lazily spent our day strolling around the grounds enjoying the Fall pumpkins on display for Halloween and admiring all the children who were drawn to the world’s largest pumpkin weighing at over 2528 lbs!

We walked by the Children's Garden as well but it was a bit damp and opted to go back outside where it was much more fun watching the parents who tried putting their toddlers on the gourds display for pictures. We made our way to the Herbs Garden to get a whiff of familiar Caribbean herb scents and discovered the best light of the day and a collage of colorful fall trees for some family pictures. While striking our poses we heard some enchanting singing and recitations, mesmerized we followed along and realized there were hula performers in front of the Conservatory! It was already crowded and we tried our best to find a spot for Annie to see but it was not possible. A guest standing nearby realized Annie could not see and called out to a nearby staff who was very happy to wheel her in the front. He even politely told us where the ramp was to the Conservatory to see more of the exhibition. The hula dancers in their brightly colored outfits looked striking against the Victorian-style Conservatory. We watched on for two songs then went to see the some of Hawaiian lush greenery and flowers collection. We could not miss a quick stop over in our favorite Cactus Collection then headed over to brunch at the Hudson Garden Grill.

There were no lines to get our entry tickets. The staffs provided excellent service, their extra touch of understanding and kindness goes a long way in creating a memorable family day out.
